چکیده

This work introduces a pantomimic gesture interface, which classifies human hand gestures using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) behaviour recordings as training data. We argue that pantomimic gestures are more intuitive than iconic gestures and show that a pantomimic gesture recognition strategy using micro UAV behaviour recordings can be more robust than one trained directly using hand gestures. Hand gestures are isolated by applying a maximum information criterion, with features extracted using principal component analysis (PCA) and compared using a nearest neighbour classifier. These features are biased in that they are better suited to classifying certain behaviours. We show how a Bayesian update step accounting for the geometry of training features compensates for this, resulting in fairer classification results, and introduce a weighted voting system to aid in sequence labelling.

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition

With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

Modeling and Evaluating Narrative Gestures for Humanlike Robots

Gestures support and enrich speech across various forms of communication. Effective use of gestures by speakers improves the listeners’ comprehension of the spoken material and their perceptions of the speaker. How might robots use gestures to improve human-robot interaction? What gestures are most effective in achieving such improvements? This paper seeks answers to these questions by presenti...

The IMHG dataset: A Multi-View Hand Gesture RGB-D Dataset for Human-Robot Interaction

Hand gestures are one of the natural forms of communication in human-robot interaction scenarios. They can be used to delegate tasks from a human to a robot. To facilitate human-like interaction with robots, a major requirement for advancing in this direction is the availability of a hand gesture dataset for judging the performance of the proposed algorithms. We present details of the Innsbruck...

An Experimental Study on Blinking and Eye Movement Detection via EEG Signals for Human-Robot Interaction Purposes Based on a Spherical 2-DOF Parallel Robot

Blinking and eye movement are one of the most important abilities that most people have, even people with spinal cord problem. By using this ability these people could handle some of their activities such as moving their wheelchair without the help of others. One of the most important fields in Human-Robot Interaction is the development of artificial limbs working with brain signals. The purpos...
